Village Manor Retirement is proud to honor its veterans. The Hartland Senior Center Men's Club joined our residents for breakfast while Commissioner David Domas handed out Certificates of Recognition for their distinguished service in the U.S. armed forces. We were reminded that we will always be the "Land of the Free" as long as we are the "Home of the Brave". Following that wonderful presentation, they were treated to a lecture by Don Burgett, WWII celebrated author and decorated veteran.
Next, Quilts of Valor presented each of our veterans with a hand-made quilt in honor of their service. Ann Meredith, Quilts of Valor Coordinator, and her crew lovingly make each quilt to present to veterans to thank them for the freedom that each one of us enjoys.
The afternoon was made special by an appearance from WWII veteran and film maker, Duane Zemper. Residents were able to view his short film and then follow up with discussion and questions to Mr. Zemper himself. What a treat!
To round out the day, the Rolling Thunder Veterans Group appeared for a special POW flag raising and the Marine Corps League shot a 21 gun salute. We could never thank our veterans enough for their brave service. This day, however, was a wonderful way to try!
